A Survey Report On Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Adult Population for COVID 19 Prevention in A Rural Area of Mymensingh

Abstract:
Background: Adult population is most affected by the current pandemic which is a case of significant mortality, morbidity, health expenditure Prevention is the mainstay which depends upon appropriate knowledge, attitude and practicum.
Objective: To assess knowledge, attitude and practice of adult population regarding COVID 19.
Materials and Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional type of observational study, the sampling technique was purposive type of non- probability sampling technique. A total of 168 adults were studied during November 2021 is Churkhai village, Bhavakhali union, Mynsamsingh. They were interviewed by predesigned questionnaire. Knowledge. attitude and practice were measured using score based on correct answers. Data analysis was done by SPSS program version 20.0.
Results: Sample size was 168. All the respondents were Muslim. Age ranging from 20 yrs to 75 yrs, mean age 37.45 yrs standard deviation 15.72 yrs, sex: male 69, female 99, females predominant (male: female ratio 69.70 1003 Males mostly involved in agriculture work and females as housewives. Majority were literate (70.24%) and belonged to middle class family (65.48%). Majority of respondents (79.17%) were apparently healthy. (17.4%) of respondents had corona test done. 2.98% of respondents hat corona test positive. Those who were positive received treatment and were in isolation. Knowledge and practices inquired were components of chain of infection, face mask use, daily bathing, washing face and mouth, hand washing, handkerchief use, avoidance of touching face, maintain distance and vaccination. Score below 60 percent was considered as had, from 60 to 79 as good, 80 and above at excellent Correct knowledge of causative agent of COVID 19 virus (89.88%), animal reservoir (83.93%), human reservoir (92.86%), source of infection (92.86%) and susceptible host (92.86%) were excellent. Correct knowledge of portal of exit (65.48%), made of transmission, as droplet infection (67.26%) and portal of entry (61.90%) were good. Knowledge about preventable value of wearing face mask (88.69%), daily bathing (97.02%), washing face and mouth (87.50%). handkerchief use (85.71%), avoid touching face (80.36%), maintaining physical distance (83.93%) and immune boosters (1.07%) were excellent while knowledge about hand wash (73.81%) was good Knowledge of importance of separation of patients (91.67%) and separation of contacts (80.36%) were excellent. (74.40%) of respondents had positive attitude about decisions taken to prevent COVID 19 viz. lockdown, face mask, physical distance and vaccination. Practice of daily bathing (97.02%), using handkerchief during both sneezing and coughing (86.90%), avoidance of touching face and eyes (80.36%) and maintenance of physical distance (80.36%) were excellent. Practice of wearing face mask 69 64%, washing face and mouth 5 times or more in a day (78.57%), washing hands with soap and water (70.83%) and utilization of immune boosters (77.38%) were good. Vaccination coverage of respondents (77.38%) was good.
Discussion: The results are better than the findings of studies conducted in our country and neighboring countries.
Conclusion: More surveys are needed on large scale.
