Causes and consequences of the consumption of tobacco-derived drugs products and its effects on the lives of youths in Kalehe territory: Case study of Minova health zone
Jacques Wihoreye Sharo
The consumption of tobacco products, particularly cigarettes, has a major impact on the social and health life of young people in the village of Minova. This phenomenon is fuelled by the influence of friends, curiosity, stress, anxiety and aggressive cigarette advertising. The consequences of cigarette smoking among young people in the Minova health zone are multiple and serious. On the health front, we've seen persistent coughing, respiratory illness and heart disease. In addition, on a social level, we found that young smokers are stigmatized and poorly regarded in this environment. This worrying problem highlights the need to act quickly to prevent and reduce cigarette consumption among young people in the Minova health zone. To combat this scourge, based on the strategies envisaged by our respondents, we supported psycho-social supervision of young people to educate them and combat smoking. However, our aim is to establish a psychosocial support strategy to educate and combat smoking among young people in the Minova health zone, raise awareness of the consequences of cigarette consumption, offer young people healthy and positive alternatives to smoking by involving them in sporting and artistic activities, provide young people with practical skills to develop the entrepreneurial spirit to take charge of their own lives, involve the community in the prevention of smoking, particularly cigarettes, with the aim of reducing cigarette consumption among young people in the Minova health zone.
